The area should not be confused with the larger region of the western half of central England containing the counties of Herefordshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Warwickshire and Worcestershire. The West Midlands is a melange of urban and rural areas with rolling hills, stately homes and gardens and pretty villages just waiting to be visited. There is good walking country to the west in the Clent Hills with excellent views on offer. Visit Dovedale on the Derbyshire and Staffordshire border and see the famous ashwoods. Around the Birmingham area and within easy reach you can find West Midlands Safari Park with lots of interesting wildlife. The Aston Transport Museum has lots of commercial vehicles and buses on display. A trip to see the Ironbridge Gorge Museums makes a good day out to help understand the beginnings of the Industrial Revolution. If you like old trains then the Severn Valley Railway is for you. It boasts the largest collection of steam engines and coaches in Britain.
