Gloucestershire is a county in south-west England and the county town is Gloucester. It include the valley of th River Severn, The Forest of Dean and part of the Cotswold Hills

The Cotswold Way long distance path traverses the whole region and walking it is an ideal way of seeing the villages here.

Cheltenham is a spa town with an excellent range of accommodation, restaurants, theatres and shops. The town has lots of Georgian and Regency architecture with peaceful parks and gardens. To sample the spa waters, see the Pittville Pump Room. There is an excellent range of first class fashion shops in the town plus antique and craft shops, cafes and restaurants.

Cheltenham has some very good museums and holds music and literature festivals each year. There is a theatre which has a wide range of plays and musicals. There is a wonderful Cathedral in the city and some excellent museums.

Cheltenham racecourse has race days from October to April. Cheltenham makes a good base from which to tour the surrounding area and the Cotswolds since road and rails links are excellent.

A visit to the Slimbridge Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust to see where swans, ducks, geese and other wildfowl breed makes a super day out.

Berkeley Castle is the scene of the demise of King Edward ll, murdered in 1327. Nevertheless, the castle is most interesting and certainly worth visiting.
