Hutton-le-Hole is recognized as one of the most picturesque villages in all England. It lies within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, a few miles north of the market town of Kirkbymoorside and about 25 miles north of the historic city of York and twenty miles from the coast. The old stone houses nestle in the valley of Hutton Beck. Sheep wander down from the moors, roaming freely amongst the picturesque stone cottages on the village green and mow our grass.
As well as being a conservation area, Hutton-Le-Hole is still a working village with a lively pub, post office, tea shop and the renowned Ryedale Folk Museum.
Absence of modern development and the retention of its historic manorial structure makes Hutton-le-Hole one of the few quintessential English villages which you dream about but struggle to find. Apart from being a stunning village in its own right, Hutton-le-Hole is also very well situated as a base for exploring North Yorkshire.
Hutton-le-Hole itself is ideal for walking - you don't need to take the car, you can walk straight out from the front doorstep. Also, the neighbouring valleys of Farndale and Ryedale are within 10 minutes’ drive. The Likewake Walk passes close by and the coastal paths are stunning for a day out. The village has a tennis court available to visitors for a small fee, and a bowling green. Horse riding and fishing are also offered locally.
The village has a lively pub with good food within easy walking distance of our house. Within a short drive are several other excellent pubs and restaurants from Michelin star quality to home cooking. |
